The Story Behind the Bell Witch Cave

The story of Bell Witch is very famous for its scary tales and what happened to the bell family in the 1800s. John Bell is believed to have lived there with his family, and he and his daughter Betsy, have been tortured by the witch for many years mainly because the witch wanted to kill John for an unknown reason.

Bell Witch Cave Front Tunnel | Eventually, news reached Nash… | FlickrIt was in the summer of 1817 that Bell's family began to notice the paranormal activity that was happening to them. Some saw horrible-looking animals around their homes while others heard strange noises knocking on doors in the middle of the night. When things went wrong for Bell's family, they had to tell their neighbors. Among them, James Johnson was the first to know the horrible things that happen to the family and suggested finding out the reason behind everything that was happening.

Reportedly, the witch wanted to kill John for unknown reasons. However, the witch looked for her daughter Betsy as soon as she was engaged to her boyfriend, Joshua Gardner. Even after canceling their engagement due to increasing torture, the witch did not leave Betsy and mistreat her in several ways, including slapping her face or often pulling her hair. Imagine being pushed or hit by an invisible hand, without even knowing the reason.

How must it be terrifying?

Betsy's father, John, was horribly tortured. Months before his death, his tongue swelled, he became too weak even to get up and finally died after having long fought his illness. According to a source, he was poisoned by the witch when a bottle of liquid was found near his bed. The witch took credit for her death and promised to leave and return after seven years. In 1828, the witch returned for a while. She stayed with Bell and talked to him about the past and the future. She came back and said to come back in 107 years, it was in 1935, but people say that the witch never came back in the first place. She was still there because people noticed strange things happening even after several years of John's death.

Witches Never Die

Bell Witch - Wikipedia
As they say, witches never die, and even after thousands of years, you can feel them wandering around in haunted places. Although people did not experience many paranormal activities there, one of the bloggers shared his experience. He mentioned that he lived in Pleasant View, TN, a few miles from the cave. The children were playing a game where they had to say "I love the bell witch" while looking in the mirror. Although the witch never appeared before them, he saw children playing the game with minor wounds and scratches when they came to school. Another overly popular story concerns President Andrew Jackson. He visited the farm before becoming president and stayed overnight to see the witch or the spirit if they existed. He was quoted as saying, "I would rather take on the whole British army than spend another night with the bell witch." Only God knows what happened to him there, because no source has revealed anything more about the incident.
